We arrived in Sorrento early and were unable to enter the hotel as they are only there until 11am, which we did not know at the time. We found the lady at the shop just outside the entrance very helpful as she called the owner and he showed up a few minutes later. He seemed somewhat put off by us having called him as we arrived early, but it was just because he wasn't prepared and really didn't want to keep us waiting. The rest of the trip he was very helpful and friendly. Great location, as it's close to the shopping, marina, train station. The room was clean, roomy, had a large bathroom. The only downside was there were no windows, aside from one in the ceiling. They have free wifi but it doesn't work very well in the rooms so you have to sit near the door or in the bar area of the entrance. While we would not return to Sorrento, as it was not for us, if we did we would definitely stay here again. Great hotel.
When staying in Sorrento with my boyfriend, we chose La Magnolia. It is right in the heart of the city, around all the night life. It was a short walk to the water/beaches and close by to some delicious restaurants. The breakfast every morning was great, the service was okay although the language barrier made things a little uncomfortable, but that is just as much our fault as the inn keeper. The B&B is located amongst many lemon groves which made it very scenic and beautiful. At times, it was a little noisy. Overall, a great place.
My wife and I (over 55) just spent a wonderful week in Sorrento, where we stayed in the Hotel La Magnolia. It is a 10 minute walk to the Circumvesuviana (don
stayed here last week, room was superb, large, aircon with controller, fridge, safe, en suite, direct dial telephone, wifi. before i start...remember this is not a hotel. its rooms to let. therefore it has no pool, no bar, no 24hr manned desk. right, well we stayed here last week. fantastic location. less than a minute from the flags in tasso square. bed was big and comphy, towels changed daily, (more like bumpy linen than towels, but they got me dry). safe was a good size, fitted all the documents and money and other stuff. oh and that was free. i read a review that the breakfast was shocking. remember this is not a hotel so no michellin starred chef on hand to do anything, breakfast was more than acceptable and definatly more than i could handle. jam filled croissants (long life packet ones), fresh hot toast, butter and preserves, buitoni dry bread (italien favourite im told), fresh yoghurts, fresh juice, fresh coffee tea or cappachino. jam or fruit frangepan, did i miss anything out? our room had 3 windows in it, think it was called postarno. owner was a pleasure to deal with, good english and nothing seemed a bother. look at google street maps before you arrive, as it is a double iron gate with electronic lock and a sign, the accomadation is located behind the fruit shop. would have no problems reccomending this place to anyone.
We had booked to stay at this hotel and the day before we were to arrive, they had a terrible rain storm and the room we were to stay in was water damaged. As they were fully booked, the owners, Carlo and Jenny, went above and beyond to accomodate us. They booked us a room at a 4-star hotel, paid the difference in price and walked us to a cab and paid them to take us to our new hotel, which was just a short walk from the main square in Sorrento. Though we were dissapointed not to have had the honor to stay with them at the La Magnolia, from what we saw, it was a fantastic hotel in a great location. We hope to be able to stay with them on our next trip to Sorrento. Stayed September 2011, travelled as a couple
We were at LaMagnolia for 3 nights and found it to be the perfect location! Close to main square, restaurants and old town. Carlo was so helpful with recommendations for restaurants, letting us use his computer. We were able to visit a bit with Carlo and his son the day before we left, which was very special. A little trouble finding our way to the B&B from the train station but we must attribute some of that to our state of mind after being up for 24 hours! Would go back in a heartbeat!
