My wife and I (over 55) just spent a wonderful week in Sorrento, where we stayed in the Hotel La Magnolia. It is a 10 minute walk to the Circumvesuviana (don’t be intimidated by what you read about this) station, a 5 minute walk to the old town, a 15 to 20 minute walk down to the port, and a 10 to 15 minute walk to a wonderful park overlooking the Bay of Naples with Mt. Vesuvius prominent in the distance. We made early reservations, on-line, which we were able to confirm with the owner (Carlo) by email and then phone as our arrival time approached. We found the room charming, clean, and just right. While the room faced a relatively busy street, which could be noisy, closing the shutters and window solved that. Opening the window and shutters in the morning brought us a wonderful view of a waking and soon to be lively town. By the end of our stay, we were waving to the locals who we came to know. Finally, we can’t praise Carlo enough for his attention to our comfort at the hotel, and his interest and patience helping us with our questions about our visit to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. On our arrival, the hotel grounds included a garden that wasn’t quite ready for use. Carlo was apologetic about that and vowed to have it ready by the end of our stay. True to his word, he personally prepared our breakfast in the garden on the last day of our stay. We were speechless at his thoughtfulness, and we, too, vowed to return. After only a week, we felt we were leaving a friend. The hotel is a great value in a great location run by wonderful people. By the way, the Wi-Fi worked great in our room.
We were at LaMagnolia for 3 nights and found it to be the perfect location! Close to main square, restaurants and old town. Carlo was so helpful with recommendations for restaurants, letting us use his computer. We were able to visit a bit with Carlo and his son the day before we left, which was very special. A little trouble finding our way to the B&B from the train station but we must attribute some of that to our state of mind after being up for 24 hours! Would go back in a heartbeat!Steve and Betty Hartman
We had booked to stay at this hotel and the day before we were to arrive, they had a terrible rain storm and the room we were to stay in was water damaged. As they were fully booked, the owners, Carlo and Jenny, went above and beyond to accomodate us. They booked us a room at a 4-star hotel, paid the difference in price and walked us to a cab and paid them to take us to our new hotel, which was just a short walk from the main square in Sorrento. Though we were dissapointed not to have had the honor to stay with them at the La Magnolia, from what we saw, it was a fantastic hotel in a great location. We hope to be able to stay with them on our next trip to Sorrento. Stayed September 2011, travelled as a couple
The best thing about La Magnolia is its close location to the square and where all the action is. It is also a walking distance from the port and from the train station. The room for modern styled and equipped with everything you may need except for an iron. It is spacious considering it is B&B room. The whole place was clean and neat.Carlo runs the place and was very helpful and cooperative. We arrived late and waited until he made sure we had everything we need. The breakfast was more than expected in terms of portions and variety. I recommend La Magnolia and see that it is excellent in B&B standards.
stayed here last week, room was superb, large, aircon with controller, fridge, safe, en suite, direct dial telephone, wifi.before i start...remember this is not a hotel. its rooms to let. therefore it has no pool, no bar, no 24hr manned desk.right, well we stayed here last week. fantastic location. less than a minute from the flags in tasso square.bed was big and comphy, towels changed daily, (more like bumpy linen than towels, but they got me dry).safe was a good size, fitted all the documents and money and other stuff. oh and that was free.i read a review that the breakfast was shocking. remember this is not a hotel so no michellin starred chef on hand to do anything, breakfast was more than acceptable and definatly more than i could handle. jam filled croissants (long life packet ones), fresh hot toast, butter and preserves, buitoni dry bread (italien favourite im told), fresh yoghurts, fresh juice, fresh coffee tea or cappachino. jam or fruit frangepan, did i miss anything out?our room had 3 windows in it, think it was called postarno.owner was a pleasure to deal with, good english and nothing seemed a bother.look at google street maps before you arrive, as it is a double iron gate with electronic lock and a sign, the accomadation is located behind the fruit shop.would have no problems reccomending this place to anyone.
“convenient location, very clean, very unique, old and pretty” Reviewed May 19, 2010 Travelled with my mother, and the hotel is small and historical and the room was lovely, breakfast was a bit of a rip off, but we went elsewhere. Stayed April 2010, traveled with family
